Idris Elba Speaks on Diversity in Media and Film [Video]

Idris Elba recently addressed the need for diversity in media and film. While Idris was speaking about the issues in the UK, the topic is very much universal. The current Oscar storm in the States, over the lack of diversity with not only the folks whom are nominating the talent, but the obvious talent that was snubbed this year, based on color, as some believe.

[Video] - 1.19.16: Candace Cameron Bure Walks Off THE VIEW Set After Falling ILL

On Tuesday's episode of The View, the panel had a spirited debate about the lack of diversity in this year's list of Academy Award nominations. Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg spoke her opinion and it appeared as though some weren't on the same page.
At one point, Candace Cameron Bure had interesting facial expressions throughout the discussion. Joy turned to Candace and they started playfully talking to one another to ease the heated debate. Whoopi jokingly stated if she had to talk about God, they were going to talk about movies. This didn't help Candace's facial expressions. Whoopi then asked Candace if she needed some orange juice. Immediately after the segment, Candace stood up and walked off the set...she didn't return.
Candace later tweeted she wasn't upset about the discussion, she was actually ill.
Social media lit up speculating that she walked off the set for another reason.
On Wednesday, Candace was absent due to the flu. [Cough]
Candace explains why she left abruptly via E! News:
Side Note: I'm not speculating on whether or not Candace was actually sick or not. The fact is anyone with eyes could SEE the tension at the table and the facial expressions Candace kept on her face, including smirks. I'm just saying. By the way, I have nothing against Candace, she seems like a nice person. I also look forward in seeing the Full House reboot, Fuller House when it premieres on Netflix. However, to be a permanent co-host on The View, you must have thick skin. It is called "The View" for a reason. Everyone has their own opinion, so there will be heated discussions. Deal.

New Series Trailer: 11.22.63 [Based on the Stephen King Novel] Coming to HULU 2.15.16

James Franco stars in the upcoming eight-part HULU series 11.22.63. The show is based on the bestselling Stephen King novel of the same name.
Want to read the book before the series starts?
Grab a copy soon.
Btw: 11/22/63: A Novel was the January 2012 Book of the Month pick.
Synopsis:
ON NOVEMBER 22, 1963, THREE SHOTS RANG OUT IN DALLAS, PRESIDENT KENNEDY DIED, AND THE WORLD CHANGED. WHAT IF YOU COULD CHANGE IT BACK?
In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King—who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer—takes readers on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it. It begins with Jake Epping, a thirty-five-year-old English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching GED classes. He asks his students to write about an event that changed their lives, and one essay blows him away—a gruesome, harrowing story about the night more than fifty years ago when Harry Dunning's father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a sledgehammer. Reading the essay is a watershed moment for Jake, his life—like Harry's, like America's in 1963—turning on a dime. Not much later his friend Al, who owns the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to the past, a particular day in 1958. And Al enlists Jake to take over the mission that has become his obsession—to prevent the Kennedy assassination. So begins Jake's new life as George Amberson, in a different world of Ike and JFK and Elvis, of big American cars and sock hops and cigarette smoke everywhere. From the dank little city of Derry, Maine (where there's Dunning business to conduct), to the warmhearted small town of Jodie, Texas, where Jake falls dangerously in love, every turn is leading eventually, of course, to a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and to Dallas, where the past becomes heart-stoppingly suspenseful, and where history might not be history anymore.

OSCAR Nominations [Full List] + Oscar Awards Faces Backlash
No nomination:

No nomination:

The link for the full listing of the Oscar nominations listed below:
2016 OSCAR Nominations - Full List
While many have called for a boycott of the Oscars due to the lack of people of color being nominated, the host this year will be Chris Rock, and he should not be penalized. While there definitely needs to be more diversity getting celebrated during Oscar season, the reality cannot be to just boycott the Oscars.
The President of the Academy, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, who is African-American, issued a public statement stating that more will be done in the future to have more diversity reflected in all award categories. However, the fact that not one Black actor or actress was nominated for acting categories is shameful. From Idris Elba, Michael B. Jordan to the director of Creed, Ryan Coogler not being recognized for their phenomenal work is reason to give a major side-eye to the academy. With that being said, I personally will be watching the Oscars this year, as I do every year and hope Chris Rock shades like hell. In addition, I sincerely would love to see Leonardo DiCaprio finally win an Academy award. DiCaprio's performance in The Revenant will perhaps be his time.
The Academy Awards will air live 2.28.16 on ABC at 8PM.
Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee have both stated they would be boycotting the Oscars this year. Before Jada's video message could be posted for a full day..."Aunt Viv" popped out of the woodwork and unleashed a scathing attack against Jada and Will Smith.
Of course there remains bad blood between actress Janet Hubert, who played the original "Aunt Viv" on the hit 80s sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Will Smith. While everyone has the right to speak about whatever they choose, it just seems as though Janet Hubert looks for the limelight whenever she can diss Will Smith. It's not a good look.
Hubert made interesting points, but she must also understand that insinuating that the Smiths don't care about the social injustices going on in the world, simply because Mrs. Smith is speaking up about an Oscar issue that needs to be addressed is ludicrous. If Hubert follows Jada and Will as closely as it appears, seemingly she would know this.
At some point, folks must take the high road and not be so vicious. God don't like ugly.
Just, let it go.

Happy Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Day

Dr. King's legacy lives on...even though many want to see it end. Let the ignorant continue to reveal their true colors through political propaganda, modern day lynching in the form of killing unarmed Black men and children; without justice for the victims and zero accountability by their killers.
It makes it that much easier to see the evil that continues to exist.
Remember his life, his fight, his legacy and kind spirit.
Stay Woke.

Taraji P. Henson definitely has something to celebrate. Henson won the Best Actress in a TV Drama during the Golden Globes award ceremony Sunday evening, for her role as Cookie Lyon on the mega hit show Empire.
Taraji P. Henson passed out cookies as she headed to the stage...and her acceptance speech was the highlight of the three hour event. At one point, Henson caught the signal to "wrap up" her speech...Henson wasn't having it. Her response:
Wrap up? I have waited twenty years for this...YOU wait. The epic comment gave full life!

DVR Alert: V.C. Andrews' MY SWEET AUDRINA Premieres Tonight at 8PM on Lifetime
Lifetime has adapted yet another V.C. Andrews novel into a film for their network. After the success of Flowers in the Attic, Petals on the Wind, If There be Thorns and Seeds of Yesterday which told the shocking and twisted story of the Dollanganger family; Lifetime will premiere V.C. Andrews' My Sweet Audrina tonight on Lifetime at 8PM.
An encore presentation will air at midnight.
Want to read the book? Order it today.
For a copy of the original V.C. Andrews printing:
For a copy of the re-release:
A sequel to My Sweet Audrina will be released later this year. Whitefern will release on 7.26.16
Synopsis:
The long-awaited sequel to My Sweet Audrina, one of V.C. Andrews’s strangest, most beloved books—and now a Lifetime movie! Whitefern swallowed Audrina’s childhood—and now the sprawling Victorian mansion threatens her adult life too...
Audrina remembers a better time, when her husband, Arden, was a young man with a heart filled with devotion for her. He didn’t used to be this ambitious, expansive...this cruel. But then, the death of Audrina’s father changed a great many things. When the reading of her father’s will reveals that Audrina herself will control fifty-one percent of the family brokerage—the halls of Whitefern again don’t feel safe.
Arden’s protestations become frantic, nearly violent. And while Audrina didn’t anticipate running the family business, she’s curious to do so. And she can’t help but wonder what had made her father change his will at the last minute? What did he know about Arden that she didn’t?
Trapped in the middle of it all: her fragile, simple sister—the beautiful, trusting Sylvia. Audrina promised her father she’d watch over the young woman. But after years of relative quiet, the dark days of Whitefern may have returned...
Note: After the passing of V.C. Andrews, most newer novels are written by ghostwriter Andrew Neiderman. In my opinion, the books written by the ghostwriter aren't as good as V.C. Andrews' work. Of course, this shouldn't be a surprise.
