"Soul Train" Creator Don Cornelius Found Dead Of An Apparent Suicide!!!!

Shocking and sad news hit the world today with the news that Don Cornelius who bought the legendary "Soul Train" television show to millions of homes and put a spotlight in television that was missing, was found dead in his home in an apparent suicide.

I am saddened by this and send my thoughts and prayers to his family. More on this tragic story below.

Via L.A. Times:

"Soul Train" creator Don Cornelius was found dead at his Sherman Oaks on home Wednesday morning.

Law enforcement sources said police arrived at Cornelius' home around 4 a.m. He apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the case was ongoing.

The sources said there was no sign of foul play, but the Los Angeles Police Department was investigating.

In a 2010 interview with The Times, he said he was excited about a movie project he was developing about "Soul Train."

"We've been in discussions with several people about getting a movie off the ground. It wouldn't be the 'Soul Train' dance show, it would be more of a biographical look at the project," he said. "It's going to be about some of the things that really happened on the show."

According to a Times article, Cornelius’ “Soul Train” became the longest-running first-run nationally syndicated show in television history, bringing African American music and style to the world for 35 years.

Cornelius, who was 75, stopped hosting the show in 1993, and “Soul Train” ceased production in 2006.

Soul Train debuted in 1971 and changed the landscape of television. It was the longest-running, first-run, nationally syndicated program in television history.

Superstars that have appeared on the show include Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Stevie Wonder, Chuck Berry, Sting, Diana Ross and Jamie Foxx.

Facebook’s rumored to be filing its paperwork for its initial public offering Wednesday and is reportedly trying to raise $10 billion, which would give it a valuation of $100 billion. How do these numbers match up?

Historically speaking, if Facebook has raised that much for its initial public offering, it would:

— be the sixth-largest U.S. IPO ever, sliding between AT&T Wireless and Kraft Foods.

— be the 15th-largest IPO in global history, behind Glencore International and ahead of Japan Tobacco.

— have an initial public offering more than six times that of Google. Google currently holds the record for the largest technology IPO, according to Renaissance Capital, of $1.66 billion.

— come in with more hype than other technology companies, thanks to a per-share valuation that at least one investment firm predicts will open “north of $100,” Forbes reports. For example, when Apple went public Dec. 12, 1980, it was priced at $22 per share, climbing to $29 by the end of the trading day, according to Walter Isaacson’s biography of Steve Jobs. The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple made less than $100 million by selling stock to the public. News breaking that Paula, Nicole and Steve have all been let go from "The X Factor USA". It's understandable that Steve even Nicole would be fired, but for the show to get rid of Paula Abdul after Simon begged her to be on the show and she still had a huge fan base who was brought over from "American Idol", is just foul! After Simon's reaction when Paula left "American Idol", it's shocking that HE would fire her.

Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones have all been axed from the American version of Simon Cowell's hit singing competition The X Factor. The decision to fire two judges and the show's host was made at a meeting involving Cowell and his creative team in the United Kingdom, in which the group went over what they believe went right and wrong with the show's first season in the United States.

According to reports from a source close to the show, Abdul's role was deemed "irrelevant to the mix," particularly as the contestants she mentored were all picked off early in the competition. There was no explanation for why Scherzinger and Jones were dismissed, though the source noted that Cowell wanted to bring in bigger names for the second season. As it stands, L.A. Reid, the fourth judge on Cowell's panel, appears to be staying with the program.

You see it time and time again. The media's obsession with always broadcasting Black professional athletes and their girlfriends, baby mamas, mistresses and wives who happen to be of a different race. Particularly when their significant other happens to be white.

Before I go further let me reiterate, I have nothing against interracial relationships, I'm simply pointing out the stark contrast the media has when reporting these type of relationships.

The media will have you believe that black athletes, hell black men in general don't marry or date black women. That is simply not the case. The majority of black men and black athletes date and/or are married to black or biracial women.

In the very near future, I will be doing a "Special Edition" post on Black Celebrity Couples, since yet again it's not shown that much in prominent media unless it's Will & Jada Smith or Jay Z and Beyonce. Only a few make it to mainstream media and even they have a difficult time making it on the cover of mainstream magazines. But that's another topic to be discussed at a later time.

Back to the subject at hand....

Since mainstream media refuses to shed light on White professional athletes who have dated black women in the past or are currently dating and/or married to a sista now, The Chocolate Chick will spill the tea on the subject.

[Disclaimer: The athletes mentioned are white or Non-Black. Due to the fact that relationships end at any given moment and the media is not really forthcoming with break-up/make-ups with these type of couples, I can only point out that the following couples were indeed together at one point, some are still together, some are not... hence the title "Date or Dated"]

Cristiano Ronaldo

Portuguese footballer who plays as a winger or striker for Spanish La Liga club Real Madrid and is the captain of the Portuguese national team. Ronaldo became the most expensive player in football history after moving from Manchester United to Real Madrid in a transfer deal worth $94 million. In addition, his contract with Real Madrid, in which he is paid $12 million per year, makes him one of the highest-paid football player in the world,and his buyout clause is valued at $1 billion dollars.

Now while the "media" reports he's currently dating Russian model Irina Shayk, and that seems to be the case, even stating other non-black women he's dated. They fail to mention the black women he's dated. What's even more interesting is the fact that he has a son who was born in July of 2010, he has full custody of the child and the media in Spain has actually gone on a "witch hunt" to find the "black" mother of the child, who they believe is biracial, yet they neglect to mention his previous black girlfriends. If you’re a fan of the super successful and gut-busting comedy franchise Friday (count me as one!), then you’re likely jumping out of your seat over the news that a fourth film is on the way.

And, it likely will feature an appearance by Chris Tucker, whom we haven’t seen since the first film came out in the mid-90s.

Mike Epps, who replaced Tucker in the sequel, gave an interview to the Rickey Smiley morning show and said that he “talked to Ice Cube and he told me he's getting the script together. They're waiting on New Line Cinema to come through. I think it's going down in the spring.”

Yes, please, yes.

He also said this of Tucker (whom I once asked years back before the second Rush Hour film came out if he’d ever do another Friday film. He broke by heart when he told me he didn’t think so...): “Ice Cube spoke to Chris Tucker and I think he's coming back. If we can get Chris Tucker to come back, show up for 5 or 6 minutes. Bring out Kat Williams. Yep.”

It makes sense why Tucker wants back in. The mostly-adlibbed original found second life in the rental market and maintained top seller status for years.

Comedy Gods: please don’t disappoint us. We need more Friday!

Side Note: As hilarious and talented as Chris Tucker, I'm shocked he hasn't really made any other films except for the "Rush Hour" movies that got hella boring. [The first one was the best]. He was getting $20 million per "Rush Hour" film and didn't participate in any other "Friday" films which at the time I thought was a slap in the face to the fans of the film and the fact that the film put him on another level in Hollywood. Now he has major financial issues and his friend Michael Jackson can no longer help him so NOW he's interested in doing a "Friday" film. I like Chris Tucker and can't wait to see him back in a "Friday" film, but really dude?

In the days following Demi Moore's surprising hospitalization Monday night, the details that have emerged are even more perplexing, particularly the latest reports that Moore was inhaling nitrous oxide from aerosol cans, also known as whip-its, the night the 911 call was placed from her home in Los Angeles.

And although Moore has been released from the hospital, People magazine reports that the actress' health scare has her soon-to-be ex-husband Ashton Kutcher very worried about his wife of six years.

"Ashton is deeply concerned for Demi," a source told the magazine. "He still cares about her and wants the best for her. But their marriage is ending and they are both moving on with their lives."

Kutcher has yet to make any official statement about Moore, nor has he expressed anything about the matter via his frequently updated Twitter account. The "Two and a Half Men" star was out of the country working on an ad campaign when news of Moore's hospitalization broke. He is reportedly back in L.A. to return to work on "Men."

The theories about why Moore turned to nitrous oxide in the first place all relate back to her very public and emotional split from Kutcher back in November, when Moore announced the breakup with "sadness and a heavy heart" after months of not-so-quiet rumblings that her husband had been unfaithful.

Demi Moore's hospitalization caps a rough patch for the actress.

Friends have said that shortly after her split with Kutcher, the 49-year-old began to have trouble sleeping and developed a severe problem with prescription drugs.

A New York woman has accused broadcast journalist Greg Kelly of sexually assaulting her last October.

Kelly, 43, co-host of the morning TV show "Good Day New York" on the Fox affiliate WNYW-TV and the son of New York Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly, is cooperating with the investigation and denies any wrongdoing of any kind, The Associated Press reported.

The woman, who is in her late 20s or early 30s, made the complaint on Tuesday at the 13th Precinct station house. The reason why she waited several months to come forward is unclear.

According to The New York Times, the woman claims to have met Kelly on the street on Oct. 8. They went for drinks at the South Street Seaport then proceeded to the Lower Manhattan law office where she works. The alleged assault occurred there, she said.

The pair remained in contact by phone and text message after the incident.

When the accuser's boyfriend learned about the encounter, he reportedly approached Commissioner Kelly at a public event and accused his son of ruining the woman's life. The commissioner suggested he write a letter, The New York Post reported. It is unknown if the boyfriend did so.

Due to Kelly's relationship with the police commissioner, the New York County District Attorney's office is conducting the investigation.

"We know that the District Attorney's investigation will prove Mr. Kelly's innocence," attorney Andrew Lankler said in an e-mailed statement.

Kelly joined Fox News Channel in 2002 and was the White House correspondent from 2005 to 2007. A Marine Corps veteran and lieutenant colonel in the reserves, he also covered the Iraq War and the September 11 terror attacks.

Though she and Barbara cleared the air over the years and are friends one can still never forget that Star Jones left the show in her own way and shocked her co-hosts when she announced live on television that she was leaving the show earlier than expected and revealed that her contract wasn't being renewed for the new season. The look on their faces were classic. [The show wanted her to say it was her choice to leave, but Star Jones turned the tables on them].

The show later announced Star Jones would not be back and that airing was her last appearance, but it was uber fabulous the classy way Star Jones left after the way they treated her dismissal.

Star Jones and Barbara Walters have found it in their hearts to reunite.

Jones, who made a hasty exit as a co-host of "The View" in 2006, will return to the show for an episode in February after trading criticisms with "View" star Barbara Walters.

Both have undergone heart surgery, and Jones will appear on the Feb. 22 episode of "The View" to discuss heart health for women during National Heart Month, The Associated Press reports.

An ABC representative did not immediately respond to TheWrap's request for comment.

Jones, who underwent heart surgery in 2010, quit the daytime talk show in 2006. She surprised viewers -- and Walters, who had not been aware she was going to make an announcement -- by saying during a live June 27 broadcast that she was leaving the show.

Jones was not allowed to return to "The View" the next day, and Walters wrote in her 2008 autobiography "Audition" that Jones had asked her "View" co-stars to lie about her weight-loss surgery. Jones criticized Walters for sharing details of her affair with a married U.S. senator in her book.

But next month, the two put their differences aside in the name of promoting the American Heart Association's "Go Red for Women" heart health campaign. Walters underwent open heart surgery to repair a faulty valve in 2010.

Demi Moore had an seizure Monday night before she was rushed to the hospital and is being treated for anorexia, among other substance abuse issues.

The 49-year-old Ghost star has become frighteningly thin since her split with husband Ashton Kutcher, and a source close to the actress described what happened to her.

"She collapsed after having an epileptic seizure," the source said about the frightening medical emergency.

Her dramatic weight loss has caused much speculation about her health and the source confirmed that this is one of the issues she is seeking treatment for.

"Demi is in getting treated for anorexia, as well as other issues that caused her seizure," the source said.

"She has not taken care of her health at all lately and has lost a ton of weight."

The actress is reportedly seeking help for substance abuse as well.

She announced that she was separating from him but has yet to file divorce papers.

Aretha Franklin – who announced Jan. 3 that she and her "forever friend" William 'Willie' Wilkerson would wed this summer – released a statement Monday with a change of plans.

"Regretfully, To Our Friends and Supporters: Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly," said Franklin, 69. "There will be no wedding at this time."

"We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends."

The statement was signed "Aretha and Will."

Franklin is famously private about her personal life. In an interview with PEOPLE last year, she politely declined to discuss whether she was even in a relationship.

I stumbled across the writings of J.A. Rogers years ago and have always found him extremely astute and surprisingly forthcoming on his thoughts on the subject of the black race, race in general and cultural ethnicity, which is startling given the fact that J.A Rogers was born in 1880 and died in 1966. [J.A. Rogers was born in Jamaica and later moved with his family to Harlem, NY in 1906]

Synopsis:

In Nature Knows No Color-Line, Rogers examined the origins of racial hierarchy and the color problem. Rogers stated that the origins of the race problem had never been adequately examined or discussed. Rogers believed that color prejudice generally evolved from issues of domination and power between two physiologically different groups. According to Rogers, color prejudice was then used a rationale for domination, subjugation and warfare. Societies developed myths and prejudices in order to pursue their own interests at the expense of other groups. Rogers was trying to show that there is nothing innate about color prejudice; that there is no natural distaste for darker skin by lighter-skinned people; and that there is no natural aversion for lighter skin by darker-skinned people.

J.A. Rogers has many writings available that are of interest of a read. His books "100 Amazing Facts about the Negro" and "World's Great Men of Color" [Volume I: Asia and Africa, and Historical Figures Before Christ, Including Aesop, Hannibal, Cleopatra, Zenobia, Askia the Great, and Many Others"] are all MUST READS!

There are many things one will never learn in public schools. As a young child and even to this day, I have always had a thirst for knowledge, loved reading/writing and researching many subjects. It's a trait I'm very proud of.

An addendum to next month's book of the month is the pamphlet by J.A Rogers titled "The Five Negro Presidents: According to what White People Said They Were".

I ordered it on Amazon, however due to the fact it is less than 20 pages long, I don't quite understand why it wasn't available as a kindle purchase.

There has always been speculation on not only previous Presidents but other notable people in the world who were to have had black ancestry. Again what's so interesting with J.A. Roger's take on it, is due to the time period his writings were done.

In last night's episode of "Kourtney And Kim Take New York", Kim admitted she didn't want to be married anymore. Things started unraveling a few episodes back, however last night's episode was the first time the words were uttered in front of cameras.

Despite Kim Kardashian allegedly getting "caught" taping scenes for the show after the divorce announcement, yet allowing the footage to be placed in the show to make it seem as though it was happening prior to the breakup, one thing is clear.

Kim and Kris were not a happy couple. Anyone with eyes and ears could witness that prior to them getting married, especially during their four hour, 2 day wedding special that aired on the "Kardashian Network" [E!]

Whatever the case Kris Humphries was a terrible husband. Omg! I don't know who is going to be able to marry him and put up with his antics. He needs to grow up! He is immature, cruel, insensitive, appears lazy and I'm sorry but he just does not look like he knows how to ****!

If nothing else, even without the "fake" footage, the Kardashians should feel vindicated after all the haters went in on them all when Kim filed divorced papers after just 72 days of marriage. Any woman in her right mind after watching his doofy azz would have run for the hills after they realized they were married to THAT!

Case and point. In one of the scenes, Kim didn't even want to discuss something very important and sentimental to her with her hubby Kris and the look on her face at the end just showed she was so over his trife behind.

Sad news that Rep. Giffords is leaving Congress, but it is wonderful news that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords continues to get better each and every day.

Her hubby is awesome and that is what you call a REAL MAN! One who stands by his wife in her time of need. Unlike Newt Gingrich who hightailed it on not one but two wives when they were in a health crisis (One had cancer, the other multiple Sclerosis, or John McCain who left his wife after she was recovering from a devastating car crash and was disfigured.

I wish Rep. Giffords nothing but the best in her recovery and the next chapter in her life. She is a brave soul and nothing but blessings will continue for she and her husband.

It's Official: Heidi Klum & Seal Are Separating After Seven Years Of Marriage!

Heidi Klum and Seal were married May 10, 2005, after Seal popped the question while they were at a Canadian ski resort for vacation.

The couple have three kids together, Henry, 6, Johan, 5 and Lou, 2. Heidi has a daughter Leni, from a previous relationship.

It was speculated that the couple were splitting and they confirmed as much when they released a statement Sunday:

"While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate," the duo says in a joint statement.

"We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart. This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition.

We thank our family, friends, and fans for their kind words of support. And for our children¹s sake, we appreciate you respecting our privacy."

Box Office Wars: "Red Tails" Comes In A Strong Second, "Underworld: Awakening" Takes The Top Spot!

The box office showdown for this weekend was very interesting [check the "Box Office War" Preview Post From yesterday for deets].

"Underworld: Awakening" won the box office race technically this weekend bringing in $25.4 million. "Red Tails" out performed all the critics and came in a strong 2nd place bring in $19.1 million in ticket sales. [I hope everybody actually checked their ticket stubs].

I don't know how Fandango could report "Red Tails" was leading by 37% in ticket sales late Friday and then the numbers from Friday did not reflect that.

Anywho. Congrats!

"Something Blue" is the sequel to the mega hit novel "Something Borrowed", which was turned into a hit film. [Loved the movie and the book!]

So I finally finished reading "Something Blue" last week and it was going to be my "Book Of The Month" pick for next month, but I have chosen something else for Feb, yet I still wanted to suggest this book. It's a great read and hopefully a sequel to the film will be made as well.

More celebrity divorce news has hit the web. TMZ is reporting that Heidi Klum and Seal are going to be filing for divorce. Now what's so surprising is that Heidi Klum and Seal have always seemed so much in love. I know things change, but it's still rather surprising for these two. Perhaps they can work it out. No confirmation has come as yet from their reps. Additional deets below:

Heidi Klum and Seal plan to file for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court this coming week, according to TMZ.

The couple were married in Mexico in 2005 after having met the previous year.

There has been no comment from their reps.

The two were reportedly last seen together on Dec. 27, when the supermodel-mom Tweeted a photo of herself and her musician husband in Aspen, reports the Daily Mail.

Project Runway star Klum, 38, was previously married to celebrity hairstylist Ric Pipino and had a daughter – Leni, now 7 – with Italian entrepreneur Flavio Briatore.

She and Seal, 48, had three children together: Henry Günther, 6, Johan Riley, 5, and Lou, 2.

When she was pregnant with daughter Lou, Klum said of her marriage, "When we're home, we're cooking and doing things with the kids, driving them to school. We do the things that everyone has to do."

Box Office War Preview: "Red Tails v/s "Underworld: Awakening" - Friday By The Numbers!

With the highly acclaimed film "Red Tails" entering the box office race yesterday (Friday) with a total of 2512 theaters showing the film, the very popular horror/sci-fi franchise "Underworld" released it' fourth installment as well, "Underworld: Awakening" opened in 3078 theaters.

Have to say, no shade to "Underworld: Awakening", but I would really love to see "Red Tails" win the box office war this weekend. It would be icing on the cake for the struggle it took for the film to even be made, but with the tenacity of George Lucas who wanted this story told, regardless of how a bigoted Hollywood felt about the film, he made it happen.

George Lucas fully financed and produced the film. He took $58 million dollars of his own money to show his support in getting the film done when Hollywood refused. (Check the archives for previous posts on "Red Tails".)

The support "Red Tails" has been receiving via promotion, word of mouth, social media etc has been outstanding, as is the film itself.

Friday's totals have been released. "Underworld: Awakening" pulled in $9.3 million, with a bonus of releasing in aprox. 566 more theaters than "Red Tails" and benefiting from showing in 3D and IMAX runs.

"Red Tails" did extremely well bringing in $6 million in ticket sales on Friday. This is a huge WIN for the film because "Red Tails" wasn't projected to do this well, based on what the typical "Hollywood critics" assumed. That's what the "critics" get for ASSUMING!

Let's keep it 100.... had "Red Tails" opened in the same amount of theaters as "Underworld: Awakening", a new shift in Friday's numbers would have been shown.

What's even more surprising is that late Friday night, Fandango was reporting that "Red Tails" was winning by 37 % in ticket sales, but I will leave that alone. [ Hint: Some theaters will try to give you a ticket to another film instead of the "black" film you paid to see to throw off the numbers, ALWAYS make sure you check your ticket stub, because this happens all the time].

With all that being said. This is why it is so important for this film to be shown support, to shut Hollywood up on the stereotype of what films will sell and what films will not.

CONGRATS to the cast, crew and George Lucas on doing so well at the box office. Final numbers will be released tomorrow. GO SEE THE FILM!

Well with no pre-nup and reports of infidelity on Kobe's end, it was inevitable that Vanessa Bryant would seek to get as much money as she possibly could. Seems as though she got her wish. Kobe Bryant's wife Vanessa is the big winner in their divorce property settlement ... TMZ has learned.

Sources connected to the couple and with direct knowledge of the situation tell TMZ ... the property settlement agreement is signed, sealed and delivered -- a done deal.

Vanessa is walking away with $75 million, which we're told represents close to half of their total assets, estimated at around $150 million.

TMZ previously reported several transfers of property earlier this year between Kobe and Vanessa. It turns out, based on the property settlement, Vanessa scored a clean sweep, snagging ALL THREE of the former couple's mansions in the Newport Beach area.

Vanessa gets the estate the couple was living in, the estate her mom is living in, and she gets the new estate that had been under construction for 2 years and was just completed. We were told Kobe was moving into the new estate, but that's not true. It's Vanessa's crib, lock stock and barrel.

Vanessa just scored 3 ... where it counts.

Side Note: If this report is accurate, it's a shame. Kobe Bryant worked hard for his money and built his empire. He should have protected himself financially, especially since he married so young.

DVD Pick Of The Week: "The Covenant" (2006)

"The Covenant" is an excellent movie and deserves to be a part of your movie collection. It's part horror, part suspense, part action and it's the recipe for a kick azz film. For those who have not seen it you will like the movie, for those who have already seen it... watch again!

Side Note: While "The Covenant" was considered a failure at the box office, it still opened at #1 during the weekend it opened and grossed over $37 million worldwide. The budget for the film was $20 million. So a profit was made regardless. However it's when the film hit home video/dvd that sales went through the roof and "The Covenant" became an instant cult hit. Upon it's release, the film sold 1,608,866 DVDs which translated into revenue of $26,496,040 in dvd sales alone! Cha-Ching!!!
