Box Office Wars: THE EXPENDABLES 2 Takes The Top Spot + A Look At The Numbers!

The box office weekend began with Friday's totals. THE EXPENDABLES 2 were number one with $10,500,000 in ticket sales, showing in 3,316 theaters. THE BOURNE LEGACY came in at number two with $5,300,000, showing in 3,753 theaters. The third place film was PARANORMAN with $4,560,000 in box office receipts, showing in 3,429 theaters. The debut of SPARKLE shined in fourth place with $4,550,000 in ticket sales WHILE ONLY BEING SHOWN IN 2,244 THEATERS!

SPARKLE should have been in more theaters, but that's that BS that goes on in trying to fight to not only get these films green lit and financed but pushing the projects into a hefty number of theaters.

African-American cast films are always given the low end of the stick. It makes no sense and it's completely unfair.

By not giving a film it's DESERVING number of showings in a theater based on buzz, it's a clear showing of a deliberate sabotage in making African-American films appear not to have the audience to bring a film in on it's debut weekend in the number one or two spot.

Clearly that is not the case as recently shown with the uber success of THINK LIKE A MAN, which to date has grossed $95,326,341 worldwide. In it's opening weekend the film opened at number one with $$33,636,303.

It shocked the hell out of the industry. The powers that be then extended their theater showings from 2015 to 2052 theaters. It seems the industry STILL have no clue how to market a film like SPAKRLE.

So for the closing of the weekend box office bonanza, THE EXPENDABLES 2 grabbed the top spot pulling in $28,750,000.

SPARKLE made a debut at number five, with a total of $12,000,000 in ticket sales.
