The 2011 "Soul Train Awards" Were An Epic Fail, With Just A Few Bright Spots!

The highly anticipated 2011 Soul Train Awards show that aired last night on BET / Centric was one of the most boring awards shows in history. Not trying to throw race in it, however black folks are known to throw a good party, awards show, etc and give outstanding performances.

The editing was horrific, sound horrible, and the majority of the people who performed should have just stayed at home or watched from afar.

It was unbelievable. "Soul Train" is historic and holds a special place in the hearts of African Americans who know that Don Cornelius and the little show that could was a truly inspiring stepping stone for black acts and garnered television history as one of the longest running black shows on tv.

I feel as though the legacy of the name "Soul Train" was disrespected last night. The quality and effort just did not appear at all.

Of course a few great moments of the show.. very few.. The tribute to the amazing Gladys Knight was wonderful in theory, however the tribute performances were just not up to the standard it should have been for Gladys Knight. The gospel duo Mary, Mary gave a stellar performance, and Natalie Cole, who has been ill did good. Gladys' acceptance speech was awesome as was her performance with BeBe Winans.

The tribute to the late Heavy D was touching as well.

However there were not really any A-list stars at the event. Where were all the A-list black artists who can seem to make it without a problem to the MTV awards, The Grammy's, American Music Awards, etc... ???? No shows. Folks need to show some respect to the folks who put their black behinds on tv when other shows and/or networks didn't want them on theirs and respect the people who purchased their music first, and who regardless of how they phucked up, always continued to have their back at the end of the day when the "media" were ripping them to shreds.

Shameful!
