The Popular Soap "The Young & The Restless" Adds Additional African-American Characters To The Show!

The soap "The Young & The Restless" recently stepped up the game in adding african-american characters to their show. Y&R by far has the soaps beat with the roster of multiple characters of african descent. However.. something stood out. Even though Y&R hired black actors.. they were light skin or biracial actors. Actress Victoria Rowell who played the popular character "Drucilla Winters" on the show for years, had been speaking out about this particular issue with her former show as well as the basic non-existent representation of black people on Y&R and daytime period! This has caused a bit of a strife on the set of Y&R because Victoria has shown interest in returning to the show but stated that some of her past co-workers did not want her back. (These co-workers supposedly included the actresses who portray "Phylis" and "Lily" on the show).

Whatever the case, it seems the powers that be at CBS daytime and Y&R were listening to Victoria. Recently Y&R hired actor Darius McCrary to play "Malcolm"... However Shermar Moore originated the character years ago. The "Family Matters" star joined the show that also included his previous "Family Matters" co-worker Bryton McClure (Devon). In addition, Y&R stepped up their game and created a plus-size professional african-american character named "Sofia Dupre", whose engaged to "Malcolm's" character.

Congrats to the additions! Hopefully other shows will follow their lead. (Perhaps "General Hospital" bigwigs will get the drift!!)
