Shaunie O'Neal's new reality show “Basketball Wives” follows the wives, girlfriends and ex-wives of several current and former basketball players.

Shaunie O’Neal is the wife of Cleveland Cavaliers center, Shaquille O’Neal and they are currently going through a divorce.

Shaunie speaks about “Basketball Wives,” which premieres on VH1, April 11 at 10 p.m. ET.

The Wall Street Journal: What made you decide to do a reality show?

Shaunie O’Neal: I had this idea for a while now. People always ask, “What do you guys do behind the scenes?” I wanted to show the business side as well as as our charitable side. The other ladies are in the show more than I am.

Are you friends in real life with the other women on the show?

I know a couple of the other girls. The rest of them were put together for the show. We went through a whole casting thing.

Any advice for women involved with professional athletes?

Stay true to yourself because it’s easy to get lost as so and so’s wife. There’s a lot of whoring around on athlete’s part and you can lose your identity.

Do you still watch basketball games on a regular basis?

Now that basketball is not part of my everyday life I still enjoy and still care about it.

What can we expect from the show?

There’ll be some drink throwing, crying, family life and husband and wife drama.

Be sure to set your DVRs!!! This will be Must See TV!!
