Former Atlanta Falcons football quarterback Michael Vick has been released from federal prison in Kansas and is reportedly headed to Virginia to handle is financial affairs. No information has been released as to when he left the Leavenworth facility, but the U.S. Bureau of Prisons website shows his status as "in transit." Vick is due in court on April 2 in Virginia for a hearing on his Chapter 11 bankruptcy case.

In related news, Vick changed defense attorneys this week, replacing attorney Billy Martin with Daniel Meachum. Martin was well known for representing high profile clients in the past including Allen Iverson, Jayson Williams and Monika Lewinsky. According to The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Meachum, an original member of Vick's defense team, signed an exclusive three-year contract to represent the star quarterback.

Meachum told The AJC, "Yes, I'm representing Mike again. My concern is helping Michael get back to his family and surround him with people like Julius Erving, Tony Dungy, and Bishop T.D. Jakes. We need people around him who can help him and his family get back on the right track. I'm more interested in that than anything else."

The former Atlanta Falcons team leader was previously scheduled to be transferred from the federal penitentiary into a halfway house in May, then completely released from federal custody on July 21st. Vick is serving a 23-month sentence on charges relating to his involvement in a dog fighting ring. Vick hopes to be reinstated to the NFL this year once he returns home and the Falcons are seeking to trade his contract.

Meachum also told The AJC, "Vick has served his time. He's remorseful for his mistakes. I hope they give him another opportunity, but football will take care of itself." Vick has not commented on the reason for the council switch.
